Dr. Ankush Das Abstract : It was during the turbulent Naxalite movement. As many as 56 lives have been lost to police or police-aided shootings across the district. In 1971 alone more than 70-71 lives were lost in the ‘Khatam Abhiyan’ of the CPI (ML). Comrade Charu Majumder wrote a letter to the Naxalists of Birbhum on October 11 this year, “Dear Comrade, there are victories as well as defeats in the struggle…”. A large part of the youths of that time were involved in this movement at various stages. Some of them were active members of local clubs or non-political social and cultural organizations.
