The 1795-1833 Armed Mass Struggle of Landlords and Adivasis in Manbhum against British Colonial Rule
Pranab Kumar Mahato Abstract: This historical study delves into the largely overlooked but significant period between 1795 and 1833 when the landlords and Adivasis of Manbhum engaged in a formidable armed mass struggle against the British colonial forces. Fueled by a complex interplay of socio-economic grievances, cultural affronts, and the erosion of traditional land rights, this resistance movement unfolded in the rugged landscapes of Manbhum, leaving an indelible mark on the trajectory of anti-colonial struggles in India. Through an examination of primary sources and oral histories, this research aims to shed light on the motivations, strategies, and consequences of this resistance, highlighting the resilience and agency of the local population in their quest for autonomy and justice. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the multifaceted nature of colonial resistance in India during a critical period in history. Read More …
